This painting of a cow with 2 calves shows their curiosity as I passed their field while out sketching near a farm one day. The calves were the first to come over for a look, then the cow appeared few moments later.

The sunlight on the faces of the animals made me think that the scene would make a good farm animal painting, while the colouring was kept simple with strong brushwork to achieve
an effect of strong light throughout.
